BUTTERFLY FLY AWAY

I was just 10 years old but I remember this so clearly. It was 4:30 in the evening I was in my room playing with my most grandeur collection of toys. My father walked in and asked me what I was doing, I showed him the mini aeroplane I had and I said ” I am flying an aeroplane Papa.” My Dad took a keen interest and told me I was dong well and then just out of no where I said, ” I want to fly a real one. When I grow up I will become a pilot.” My father was so happy he patted my back and left.

For the longest period of time I wanted to be commercial pilot. It was my one and only ambition in life. But I gave up too soon. I became lazy and developed a lackadaisical attitude towards my studies. Poor grades and low interest meant an average student who could not really stand out and shine and was always demotivated and discouraged. And between all this, I lost my dream. What’s more disappointing is that I lost my ambition.

One of the most inspiring lines in cinema history had to be “My ambition far exceeds my talents,” said by Johnny Depp’s character George Chung. Ambition is the most important tool to achieving success, overriding both talent and resources by far.An ambitious attitude can lead anyone to triumph and satisfaction, regardless of what is put in front of them. To have the will, the dream and the courage to be on top of the world will get you a lot farther in life than any skill you can possibly possess.Having talent means nothing if you have no ambition behind it to work your ass of at any given point of the day. Do you know how many people are out there and are wastes of ability and potential?

Humanity would not have thrived as a civilization had it not been for our natural ambition to survive in triumphant fashion. Ambition is what gives us a purpose in life and allows us to fight for what we believe in. Ambitious people understand that there are no short cuts and it is only their persistence that will get them what they want. They put it all on the line, not letting any instance of drive go ignored because they know this is what they must use to make sure most of their time is dedicated to getting closer and closer to their dream.

Somewhere between I want to fly and I wish I could be a pilot, I grew up. Recently I told my father how regret not taking my ambition seriously and he held me by my arm, looked me in the eye and said ” It is never too late, you can still do that. I promise you there will come a day, butterfly fly away.”
